2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of the NAACP Image Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California and airs Saturday March 30 LIVE on TV One.
Anthony Anderson, star of the hit comedy “Blackish”, hosts this year’s ceremony for the 6th straight year and is a 2-time winner of the award himself.
A star-studded list of nominees includes: Denzel Washington, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Viola Davis, Lupita Nyong’O, and Regina King just to name a few.
In 1967, the NAACP Hollywood Branch created the NAACP Image Awards. Now a primetime live special, the NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts, as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors. The Association has also been at the forefront of the struggle for the inclusion of all Americans, regardless of race, in the entertainment industry, according to the NAACP.
“To be a part of the 50th NAACP Image Award in Hollywood California is a gift from God who controls my destiny. All my life I knew I was unique, creative and talented,” says Dona Mitchell, an Indie film writer, playwright, talent scout, casting director, visual artist, event manager, publicist and an anointed visionary.
In 1998, I received a calling from God. I didn’t understand my anointing or purpose, but I waited, prayed and was obedient to His word. I never gave up or never gave in because I believed, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Philippians 4:13. Throughout my journey I endured and persevered. I started growing in faith and realized, ‘those that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; andthey shall walk, and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31.
“In Dallas County I volunteer as an NAACP ACT-SO Judge and wherever I am needed. I am not only going to the 50th NAACP Image Award, which is a dream come true to celebrate my birthday, but I will receive the opportunity to interview celebrities. Nothing but GOD,” says Dona Mitchell rejoicing.
