Council Member Tennell Atkins issues statement on Shingle Mountain

$450,000 contract identified for shingles to be hauled away from location

DALLAS – City Council Member Tennell Atkins released the following statement on the bids to remove used shingles at 9527 S. Central Expressway:

“The city of Dallas is on the cusp of awarding a contract worth $450,000 to clean up the site formerly known as 9527 S. Central Expressway, informally known as Shingle Mountain.  Nine companies bid on the project, and the city manager is recommending the lowest responsible bidder. It is my hope that this item passes unanimously when it comes to City Council on October 13, 2020, and cleanup begins soon after.

“I have worked tirelessly to gather together parties to resolve this issue and supported the city when the issue needed to be escalated to get things done.

“This is a win for southern Dallas, environmental justice, and reaffirms our commitment to protecting the environment.”
