PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced the 2019 All-SWAC Women's Basketball Teams Tuesday, as voted by coaches and sports information contacts throughout the league.
Shala Dobbins was named to the All-SWAC First Team, while Artavia Ford was named to the second team.
The 5-6 Tulsa, Okla., senior guard leads the team and is third in the SWAC in scoring at 14.8 points per game. A dynamic offensive threat that has scored in double figures 18 times this season, crossing the 20-point plateau six times, she put up a season-best 30 points versus Mississippi Valley State. Dobbins ranks second in the conference in free throws made (144) and attempted (171), the top free-throw percentage in the SWAC (84.2).
Ford a 6-3 senior forward, has been the anchor for the Lady Panthers’ interior with strong and efficient two-way play all season. She is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game despite averaging 17.1 minutes of on-court time per game. Ford is tied for third on the team in rebounding (4.0 RPG), she’s the team’s leader in field goals made (110), shooting 47 percent from the floor. Was recognized one-time SWAC Player of the Week second in the league in blocked shots per game (1.7).
Prairie View A&M will host the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs Tuesday at 5:30 at the William J. Nicks Building for the opening round of the 2019 SWAC Basketball Tournament.
